Product Details
Ficus microcarpa, commonly known as Chinese Banyan, Malayan Banyan, or Indian Laurel, is a species of fig tree native to a wide area of tropical Asia and Australia. It is a robust, evergreen tree belonging to the Moraceae family, capable of growing into a large shade tree with a dense canopy and extensive aerial root systems, especially in humid environments. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental tree for landscapes, street planting, and is a very popular choice for houseplants and bonsai, often recognizable by its thick, gnarled roots (sometimes referred to as 'Ginseng Ficus' or 'Netted Ficus' when cultivated with exposed root structures). While adaptable and resilient, it can be considered an invasive species in some regions.
Plant Care Tips
Sunlight
Tolerates low sunlight or fluorescent light, but will thrive in medium, indirect light. Direct, bright sunlight should be avoided.
Maintenance
Water when top two inches of soil are dry. Water thoroughly.
Temperature
Does well at room temperature between 60°F - 77°F. Cold temperatures should be avoided.
Humidity
Prefers higher levels of humidity, around 75% or above.
